Why do use this movement in your watches?

Why do use this movement in your watches?

A common question we get is " Why do you use this movement?".

Let us take a look at the Springfield watch. We use the Ronda 515/515 24hr, depending on Springfield or Springfield GMT, Swiss quartz movement. We use this movement for its extreme durability and very powerful stepper motor. We like to see the powerful stepper motor as we like to add some weight to the hands of our watch via lots of Super-luminova. We need that powerful motor to keep the hands moving with added weight. Yes, Super-luminova has weight.

The movement is also repairable. We can access the movement though the case back. Once opened up we can remove the movement back plate and service the entire movement. If we have a bad coil or bad battery contacts we can replace it all. This is why we choose this type of movement. We have worked with Japanese movements in the past, but the Swiss are repair friendly. We are not saying you cannot work on the Japanese, but in house service is better suited for the Swiss.

We also like the 11 1/2 linge size, diameter. This allows a more full size movement without the movement being very small. We see small movements used in bigger watches which can be a lot of plastic filling the space. The date wheel is also very small and hard to view due to the movement size. The other problem with small movements is that again service makes it more difficult to service a small movement.

We think about all angles of design around the movement in our watches. We like to stay very uniform to help keep costs down. How does Southwest airlines keep the fares down? Every plane is a Boeing 737, they all use the same parts. This uniform service approach keeps overhead costs less and they pass it on to the consumer. We developed our movement usage on keeping cost down to you. The Southwest airlines model is one we use when we are developing our watches.

If we can use the same type of Quartz movement in all of our quartz watches, we are buying in greater volume and passing the savings on to you. The Springfield for example has to be the most aggressive priced Swiss quartz field watch in the marketplace. The added full USA supported service makes it in a class of its own.

The Springfield GMT uses a full 316L sainless steel case, synthetic sapphire domed sapphire, and full woven/stitched nylon NATO strap. We use only the best materials for longevity and performance. We are so confident of our material choices we give you a two year warranty.

We will look at our automatic watches in our next blog.

The dive watch crystal and its importance.
The dive watch crystal and its importance.

Why is the crystal so important? Diving watches have relatively thick watch crystals. Sometimes domed crystals are used to enhance the pressure-resistance of the watch and to improve the watch face legibility under water. The typical materials used for crystals are acrylic glass, hardened glass and synthetic sapphire which all have their pros and cons.
