With our most recent Kickstarter campaign coming to an end for our newest watch, The Atlantis A2, we wanted to share with you a recent hands on review of our new Atlantis A2 from the watch review site, Watch Me Unboxing. We have republished their blog post below for you to review and also included the hands on video review from the Watch Me Unboxing YouTube Channel.
Smith & Bradley is a microbrand that launched in 2012 on Kickstarter with their first watch the Sans-13 tactical watch. Cofounder and designer Jerommie Smith spent 15 years on the S.W.A.T. team, so he knew what was needed for a great tactical watch that could really be used in the field that could take a beating and still function without fail. The EDC, Law Enforcement, Tactical & Military communities really took to the brand. The Sans-13 was a huge hit with 203 backers. Jerommie Smith and Ryan Bradley were on to something big!
S&B began to grow rapidly. This all started as a side passion project for cofounders Jerommie Smith and Ryan Bradley. After a few more very successful kickstarter projects, the brand was making its mark and Ryan Bradley had to step away from the brand to focus more on his career as an attorney. This didn’t slow Jerommie down at all! He just began working around the clock growing S&B Watches into what it is today. The growing success caught the eyes of several tactical magazine publications as well as a television show on the discovery channel. The most recent was being commissioned for a big Hollywood movie production to provide all the watches worn in the movie by the cast on screen. The movie is, “10 Minutes Gone” starring Bruce Willis and Michael Chiklis. A thriller/mystery about a heist gone wrong where Michael Chikils character gets knocked out leaving the job and loses 10 minutes of his memory, and has to put the puzzle pieces together to clear his name. Because this movie is based on time, there are many close up shots of S&B Watches in the movie. Jerommie was on set every day to provide technical support for the timepieces that ultimately became a character in the movie.
I was a huge fan of the original S&B Atlantis™️ Watches, even bigger fan when I first saw the Atlantis™️ Pro, but when I first saw the new Atlantis™️ A2, I was quite blown away! I was talking with Jerommie about the project and he sent me some early images that hadn’t been released to the public yet. It wasn’t easy keeping it secret from the community, however, I managed to keep my word. I was very happy when Jerommie asked me to do a review on WatchMe Unboxing!! The wait to actually get the prototype in my hands was brutal! They had the prototypes out in the ocean field testing them to depths way beyond what the dial suggests at 300 meters. Timing worked out perfectly though. The field tests wrapped up just in time for me to showcase the prototype on the SOMA Horology Marketplace (S&B Watches just signed on as a partner brand with SOMA) table at the MicroLux Chicago event October 18th and 19th 2019.
They sent me the all Black pvd coated swiss automatic version to review. This thing is stunning!! The ceramic bezel really makes a huge difference from the older models that use all stainless steel bezels. When I first put the A2 on my wrist, it was truly an awe inducing moment. Already being a fan of S&B Watches, it looks like they took all the best features from their other models and pieces them all together to produce one phenomenal watch! It has the wave dial that they used for the ZEW Box partner watch, the Wraith, hour markers from the Atlantis™️ Pro! Also on the advice of their backers on Kickstarter, they are adding minute markers to the production watches.
The prototypes have the signature bead blasted finish that they used on the original Atlantis™️ Models, admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of the bead blasted finish, however, because they met their funding stretch goals, they are offering these in a brushed finish as well. I must say though, on the PVD coated the bead blasted finish looks really great!!
